directions from windsor to Oldtrees

Go to Windsor.

Take the Singleton/Putty Road to Wilberforce (Butterfly Farm on the right)).
Go through Wilberforce and continue on the Singleton Road to Colo.
Colo is a small village with a big new concrete bridge over the Colo River.

Don’t go over the bridge!

Just before the bridge, there is a left fork off to “Upper and Lower Colo.”

Take the fork off and 50 metres to the river trun left at the T following the sign to Upper Colo. Take the Upper Colo Road.

Go past the horse farm, – then over a single track bridge – beware the oncoming 4WD hoons. Along over/past another bridge, note the bellbirds calling along this section.

Then, past a kids’ camp called Somerset, then take the gravel road.

Two more single track bridges. Mind the potholes as you come off the wooden bridges.

The gravel ends at another bridge and a big Poplar break appears. Go past this – a place called “The Ark” an orange grove, then on the left hand side appears a sign to “Colo Heights.”

Take right hand fork in road at sign – Colo Heights
This goes down another gravel road over the river.

Continue down till you reach the wooden bridge – cross over

See picnic area / car park on the right by the river
Drive up past the picnic area and go through first gate on right (with a cattle ramp on the left of the gate)

This first gate on right has a private property sign on it– that’s the main gate, the road isn’t, private that is.

Follow the track – keep to the river

Continue through the gates by the riverbank.

GATE RULE: IF ITS OPEN KEEP IT OPEN, IF ITS CLOSED CLOSE IT ONCE YOU GONE THROUGH IT

That is some six gates, open and closed.

Still keeping to the bank take ill defined track to the end where are some derelict cars. You have arrived at the entrance to our land

Continue straight ahead and camp wherever you want.

Take plenty of insect repellent and first aid kit.
Beware of biting insects, snakes and rampaging wombats.

DIrections Part 1

Ok. Go to Windsor via the Harbour bridge, Epping rd or Lane Cove tunnel then right to the end of the M2. Follow signs to Windsor along Windsor Rd. Drive straight through Windsor. Follow signs to Wilberforce along Wilberforce Rd. This turns into Putty Rd. Follow Putty rd for about 25 min or untill you come down a very curvy steep incline. (This is leading to the Colo river.) At the bottom of this long and windy rd you turn left. Note turn left BEFORE you go over the bridge. If you go over the bridge take a U turn.....
Turn left onto the Upper Colo Rd.(Away from the bridge) Drive along this rd for a while (be carefull lots of blind corners.) untill you get to a hidden right turn, it is lower than the road you are on and leads you to a low cement flood proof bridge. The road is called Colo Heights Rd. On the opposite side of the bridge is a carpark. Follow the road over the bridge and around the top of the car park. At the top of the carpark as the road does a sharp turn to the left there is a gate with a cattle ramp opposite. This is the 1st of many gates that lead down towards Oldtrees which is the final property along this road.
There are still more directions and ill add them shortly...

google map to colo

This is a quick 'this is where colo is' google map. Ill mark and write some directions and make promises about signage once you cross the river and start driving through peoples properties. The plus side is its only 1.5 hours from sydney.
There are snakes though. and cows, oh and wombats. Also might be good to get an idea of who is actually coming and what they are planning to contribute. Ive got the pasta machine and the property so i think im even. Yes there are no showers and no electricity and no fresh water and no mobile phone reception.

Easter 08

wow blogs. i remember them.
for those who dont have a facebook account (there is a thats campin group) there are 'live' updates and discussions about thats campin that pretty much go like this 'we should go here', 'no thats too far,' 'then we should go here', then there'll be 6 months of silence untill a last minute flurry of activity creates a descision with usually the key people who initiaite the conversation saying they cant come now. so now you know what facebook is like you can make your choice. Enter your details into cia linked databases or live your life free of facebook spam.
So a that's campin first, its on Easter this year, and a thats campin second, it's on the colo river.
A few other firsts weve got nightime movies planned and a sunday feast. also featuring my birthday. So comments and discusions please.
Ill get a google map up shortly and clear proper directions on how to get there ASAP.
see you all on the world wide web.

Go south! (life is peaceful there...)

Hi Everyone.

As promised, here are maps and a description.

Theres no drinking water at meroo so you'll want to bring your own.
Also, looks like theres a fire ban again - so if you're going to cook, bring your gas stove.

Ok Lets start...

Go south.
past wollongong
past nowra
Into Ulladulla. This is pretty much your last decent place to shop and stock up. so go nuts.
Then..... go south.

Go past Burril lake and lake tabourie and look out for a little creek crossing which is called Termeil Creek (I think)
You're getting pretty close now.
Slow down... the turn off is easy to miss. it ducks back from the main road behind a big tree on the left.

1. Termeil Creek (slow down here)

2. The tricky turn off. Keep an eye out. (CAUTION : This is a dirt road but is pretty good. Beware the turn offs further south as they will kill your car. As some hapless campers found out 2 years ago.)

3. There is a fork in the road. Take the right fork. This leads to...

4. The Carpark. Yay. Park where you can. Its likely to be packed - but don't fret theres plenty of room.

From this point on its just a matter of finding everyone. Head down to the beach and walk the path up onto the headland. I think everyone is planning on camping on the headland. Its nice and shady. I have a silver CRV and will try to remember to put a note in the window.
Sometimes your mobile will work. So theres a last resort if you can't find anyone by looking.

Details details details

Hi Guys,

This is the sort of thing we can expect at meroo....

(thanks to the anu scuba club for the pic - hope they don't mind)

If you want to leave a little comment to let everyone know you're into the campin' thing, that would be great.
As usual if you need a lift or have room in a car - leave details.

Meroo : The old favourite

Hi Everyone,

After having a great night with Adam and Moni to celebrate their impending nuptials, it would seem that everyone is keen for some MEROO HEAD action.

And rightly so - theres a loo there now you know.

I would assume that people will be camping some time between 28 Dec and 3 Jan.

I'll get off my arse at some point and put up the usual directions and photos and so forth.

If you're a member on this blog - feel free to add pictures - and if you're not a member, let me know and Ill add you.

Hope you're all well

Fingal Island?

Fingal Island might be worth another shot. 3 hours drive. We'd have it to ourselves. Lots of fishing. And it is overgrown so it would be a genuine adventure. Too hot though? Too far? Too scarey? Monica is going through the national parks book now.

Blue Mountains?

Are there any undiscovered little bits of paradise in the blue mountains? I'm keen for somewhere close but pretty. Royal National park might be cool to. They might both be pretty busy though.

You need to be a member to post so make sure you get Ben to invite you via email.

Thats Campin 2005/6

Hi Everyone,

2005 has been a busy year and its time to get thatscampin underway.

So, to get the ball rolling. a quick show of hands of those interested in a camping expedition for new years.

If you want to leave some suggestions for where to go - feel free.

Some ideas being thrown around are :

- Meroo again (theres loos there now!)

(thats it really - theres not been much talk about camping)

I think generally people want to go somewhere within easy driving distance of Sydney.
You know - maximise camping, minimise travel time - we're all so terribly busy dahling.

At the moment people who are interested are :

- Ben & Nina
- Matt & Kat (last time I heard anyway)
- Mel & Clem (flying back from Berlin ESPECIALLY)
- Adam & Mon (if the mansion on the harbour is unavailable)

If you want to be a member of this blog - just leave me a message and I'll add you.

Cheers B

Thats Campin'! - Now a world blogging phenomenon

Hi Kids,

Here we have a thatscampin blogger.

Go for it.

Much luv.
